I like to listen to local radio when I travel. When I get back to the grind, I click on the link to one of these radio stations that I found better than the usual corporate crap crowding the airwaves these days. These are mostly locally focused radio stations that give you a feel of the town they are broadcasting from.
Jazz (Not That Smooth Jazz Crap)
- KOHO 101.1 In Wenatchee Wa. USA
- Jazz24 is internet only
Independent (You never quite know what is going to played
- KUWR 89.1 in Laramie Wyoming leans has a bit of a country feel
- KGLT 91.9 in Bozeman Montana is also tinged with some American Western music
- Radio Paradise is internet only and can be really good or really weird
- WFUV 90.7 out of Fordham University in New York
- WMVY 88.7 is a bunch of old hippies on Martha’s Vinyard, Mass playing a pretty good variety of current and oldies
- KEXP 88.5 in Seattle covers a wide spectrum of music. Some hits and some misses depending on your tastes
- KCSN 88.5 in Northridge California focuses a good bit of their playlists on up and coming California musicians
- KGSR 93.3 in Austin Texas partners with Austin City Limits and has a pretty good variety of music
Country, Western and Bluegrass (Its Good, Honest!)
- KNBT 92.1 An independent american/western music station in the really cool town of New Braunfels, Tx
- KCWB 92.1 from Cody, Wy for country music before the pretty boy posers got into it..
- WDVX 89.9 is a really good bluegrass station out of Knoxville, Tn
- WRIX 104.7 is a small bluegrass station out of the also small Anderson, SC
