My first summer there, I stayed in the old trailer after a lot of work. Before I left last year, I pulled out all the sections of wall and floor that were obviously rotten.
I was glad to be a head of it when I got back for the full summer season. Since I was able to stay in the trailer while I worked on the remaining clean up.
Because I didn’t trust the existing electrical, heating and plumbing. I pretty pulled all that stuff out. I left the bathroom as it was just as a time thing. I knew I wouldn’t get around to getting the plumbing working again and my time would be better spent on the outhouse.
I ran cable from the batteries to the original DC wiring entry point. I decided to risk the old wiring in the trailers for time and convenience. That risk paid off since all of the new RV LED lights I installed have worked without issue. I also have the RV Refrigerator working off the DC too.
I was able to make due with out the propane heater all summer but broke down and bought a Mr Heater Portable Buddy LP gas heater. It uses the 1lb gas cylinders that last about 3 hours even on the low setting. Instead, I swapped the connection to use my bigger and cheaper 5lb bottle with an adaptor that I was using for my camp stove.
The bigger issue with heat is that I don’t have a trailer door that closes off the side room. Inefficient is an understatement. I have some insulation that will go into the shed when I get to that point. I just piled that up in the doorway and clogged any gaps with laundry. It worked good enough. With the bigger bottle and the makeshift door, I was able to keep the trailer at a comfortable 55 degrees. about 20 degrees warmer than the outside.
There is no running water anymore. It would have just been a big effort, especially not knowing the condition of the gray and Black tanks. The clean water tank is waiting for future use have a soaked in a water/bleach mixture for a couple of days.
I bought a foam mattress from the Friendly Foam Shop in Seattle. It is a twin sized mattress that will get me through the summer. I spent some time building a twin to double convertible bed frame based on a YouTube video. After I was done, I realized that it is a feature I’ll never use. I don’t want to spend money on the foam extension that it would need since I’ll probably never use it
I laid down self stick vinyl flooring and painted the walls white and the cabinetry gray. It is pretty habitable for on person
