Poof!!! Summer is over. The last weekend of summer is here. It is going to go out in a warm sunny summery style but has been hinting at its demise for a few weeks now. The jackets and even winter coats are needed in the mornings now. The maple leaves have started to change. They are usually the first to go and a good reminder that time is running out. The days are getting short enough that I go to bed in the dark now. No small feat for me.

  1. The sun has set and it’s 75° out here on the porch but the thermometer is showing a roasting 100° up on the second floor. So much for the Low E argon filled windows I put in. Time and insulation will tell if my Scandinavian themed black paint on cement board will need to be re-imagined to a Mediterranean seaside  white stucco. In the mean time I hung reflective car windshield/dashboard covers on the windows up there. I just forget to drop them in the morning. Plenty of other places to sleep up here on this grand estate so it’s fine.

No big drama this month. I got 99% of the roof and siding work done that I needed the lift for. The last one percent will probably end up being just part of the charm. I have moved on to electrical and plumbing in the hopes that I still have time for their inspections this fall.

The inspectors won’t come in once the rain starts. August saw an inch of rain. That’s an inch more than we usually get so the rush is on. I better start winding the projects down.

I am happy to say that I have successfully hosted my first overnight guests last week. It took a couple of trips to Ikea and some much overdue cleaning to make it presentable and safe. I think it went well. They were still there in the morning and not even a little angry. They are pretty hearty travelers so it was a pretty low bar. Will have to see how it goes when my higher bar friends roll through.

I have some more pictures to organize so I’ll have a thorough overview of this summer’s efforts posted soon. If not soon, then for the next month’s post. I have a nice spot figured out to do some evening writing so it I am hoping for a good post…..
