I have had a Drone for a few years but quite frankly it is really a pain in the ass to use. It is a relatively rare day up here when the winds are calm enough to fly. When the winds and my motivation align, there is the challenge of having all of the batteries charged. There are batteries in the controller, drone and spare phone I use all. They are all rechargeable and don’t last more than 20 minutes when they are full. There are these pesky little, easily misplaced, cables that connect the controller to the phone. I have to use an old phone because my real phone has an overused protective case that doesn’t fit in the controller. The images are stored on tiny little SD card in a little compartment on the drone that my big fat fingers can barely get at so that is a 10 minute effort. When luck is on my side and everything lines up, I fire it up and let it fly. As I mentioned earlier, that doesn’t happen often so I have to relearn the controls and settings each time. As you can see from watching the video I put together for this post, It’s a steep learning curve. More than a couple times, I was excited for the video the drone was sending back to the phone only to realize when I got the SD card onto my computer that I forgot that I need to push the record button.
I am going to keep trying to get better video but in the meantime, here is my first edited effort.
You can see what I have figured out so far from this video I posted to YouTube.
It is a pretty good representation of where I am living. The cabin in the first few seconds is my nearest neighbor’s cabin. They are rarely there though. The next nearest neighbor’s cabins are about a mile beyond that cabin. The rest of the video is all me.
I have lost the connector I need to make more videos somewhere so I have a new one on order. If amazon delivers and the winds calm down. I’ll update the video with some additional birdseye views.
