Last winter, I hooked up (not the way kids today use the term) with a volunteer organization called “All Hands and Hearts” They do post disaster cleanup all over the world. I was thinking I would spend the winter doing hurricane cleanup work. Other than Hurricane Dorian, it was a pretty light year when it comes to storm damage. There are plenty of other do gooders out there that have signed up to help with that clean up so I wouldn’t be missed. Since I already checked off wallowing in wet, rotting, moldy hurricane debris off of my bucket list, I was open to other opportunities.
As I said, All Hands and Hearts is worldwide and put in a request for Earthquake relief and was accepted to go to Nepal and cleanup and build stuff after the Earthquake from a few years ago.
I don’t know what the acceptance process is but its obviously not too exclusionary.
It sounds like it is a bit of a hardship assignment. limited electricity, no internet, bad to the point of toxic water, no showers, simple meals, bunk beds and 6 day work weeks. Pretty much like how I have been living the past few months but with a day off. I have never been in that part of the world so I’ll be able to get a few more stamps on the Passport. Which, of course it the main goal,
I will be just outside of Kathmandu, a city of 1 million people so there has to be some connection to the outside world. Stay tuned, I will try to figure out a way to update TrippinWithDon or at least the google photo site. https://photos.app.goo.gl/NQeEap7jUTwoGJaF7
I created a fund raising page while sitting here waiting for the flight. In case you are inclined to help out with supplies, food and lodging cost. https://give.allhandsandhearts.org/fundraiser/2468297
I have had challenges getting into the page I created last year. Microsoft Edge would lock up so if you have challenges, try another browser.
They are very highly rated by the charity rating groups so you can be sure the money is going to help the people we are here to help.
