Bright Side of the Road

Crossed the border into Idaho yesterday afternoon. Long Drive but very pretty. I had never been to the East side of Oregon before. The Northeast corner to be specific. I am early for my Boise plans so I almost decided to keep driving to the Nevada Border. Another couple of hours south. Looking at the map the only color along the way was white. In cartographic terms, that means that there isn’t a bit of shade to be had. Not to mention, a campground. There will be plenty of opportunity for high desert camping in the future. Besides, racing the rain all day, had me pretty worn out. I was beginning to think that the cloud was actually chasing/following me out of Seattle.NA-US-OR-Baker-City-Rearvie--IMG020-enh

As soon as I crossed the Snake River into Idaho, the sky turned from grey to blue, temperature went up 10 degrees and my skin aged 5 years from the lack of humidity. Much better

The down side was that I immediately wanted a nap. I pulled into a park, rolled down the windows and woke up 30 minutes later. Feeling much better but still needing a place to sleep for the night.  There are surprisingly few State Parks here in the Treasure Valley where Boise is located. My friends Shellee and Ken offered up their guest room and probably a fun evening of Boise Nightlife.  I hated to show up two days early and needed to do some sunny day maintenance on the trailer anyway.

I had high hopes for the small town of Caldwell, Id, about 30 miles west of Boise. A pretty little leafy NA US ID Melba - Givens Hotsprings Pool IMG004neighborhood of Craftsman bungalows surrounded by strip malls. There was a tempting Walmart but one last look at the Google search pulled up a campground 20 miles south of Boise that had a pool fed by hot springs. I gave them a call and they had plenty of room. $20 a night for a no hookup site and a hot spring swimming pool.

I parked under a nice shady tree maple tree and rehooked up the trailer’s brake controller wires. They pulled apart on the first day and not having them on the down hills through the mountains had me nervous and a bit stressed. Like this Road in the Southeastern corner of Washington…..

You can see the road in the upper left corner all the way to the lower right corner.

I think I was alright without the brakes but I’ll drive more easily now that I am assured that the trailer won’t be on my lap after a quick stop.

Still have to reseal the skylight but with the weather forecast calling for Sun Sun Sun, I think I’ll procrastinate the fix until another day.
