Up early this morning but not as bad as the 2:30 wake ups I have been experiencing.
The rains had stopped and the low humidity of eastern Washington had everything pretty dry by the time I crawled out.
It was weird being inside the trailer for the rain. It sounded like a varmint of some sort was scampering along the wall. If I wasn’t so tired, it would have kept me up.
Didn’t decide what route to take today until I put the key in the ignition. I have always wanted to see the Hanford Nuclear power plant. They give tours a few days a year that I heard are pretty cool. Today wasn’t one of the days. I wish I would have done it while I was here. There are also Columbia river raft trips that float through scenery that hasn’t had human contact since the government took it over in the 30’s. I heard it is beautiful.
I continued on to the tri cities. Had Costco pizza for lunch and decided to head to Historic Pendleton, Or. The home of the Pendleton Roundup Rodeo and the infamous Lett’rbuck bar underneath the stands. Probably one of the rowdiest bars in the world, one day a year. No beer, just liquor and only drinks where the ingredients are the names of the drinks, i.e. Whiskey and 7. Rum and coke, gin and tonic. Not for the claustrophobic. It’s a hot sweaty dark room with drunken rednecks and wanna be rednecks hooting, hollering and making out with random strangers they are standing next to.
Ahhhhh. Good times.
Today, it was quiet. Too quiet. During the bartenders smoke break, I was the only person in the tavern.
I still had some driving left in me do I decided to head on.
“All to myself”
Granted, it was back in Washington and defeating the purpose, I decided to head to Walla Walla. The de facto capital of Washington’s wine region and a cool little town because of it. I did a quick wine tasting, drove through the downtown and decided to base at Chillville. A campsite where retro style airstream trailers are already there so you can enjoy all the joys of trailer living and still drive a Prius. It has been written up in all the travel and lifestyle magazines.
They leave a couple of sites vacant for people who bring their own retro style trailer. I thought i would see if mine met the standard.
I drove dragged the trailer all over the industrial section of town looking for it before I got with times and called up their website on my phone. Their home page is now just a listing of trailers for sale, all of them. So Chillville is no more.
“The lot previously known as Chillville
There aren’t any other campgrounds in the area that don’t cram the trailers in. I decided to move on.
The nearest state park is Palouse Falls state park. It is tent only so I was a little worried I wouldn’t be able to stay. The “Man” had left for the day. I parked away from the rule followers. Cooked dinner, and went to bed. But didn’t rest easy……
